Masafi Friday Market - Souk Al Juma'a

Despite the name, it’s not just on a Friday anymore, but running every day and has been for many years. The Masafi Friday market was a venture started by local Emirati farmers to sell their produce. This market captures travelers as they take the road from the south-western Emirates, leading through the Hajar Mountains to the sea at Fujairah and Dibba.

Luring customers with its vibrant hues and breezy ambience, the Masafi market is crowded with colourful carpets, children’s toys, cooking equipment and terracotta pots. Every second store is a nursery and the area bursts with tropical greens, turning this oasis town into an even lusher haven. People drive from all over for a good bargain and reasonable rates, compared to most high-end stores.

Fruits and vegetables abound, and it’s worth picking up some freshly grilled corn, drench it in lemon and salt, and then eat it straight off the cob while you peruse the produce. Some stock is imported from regional hubs, but you will also find local food in season, and some regional ingredients that are difficult to pick up in mainstream shops.

The Masafi market operates every day. It’s impossible to miss, lining both sides of the road for about a kilometer coming into the township of Masafi on the Al Dhaid Road (E88) Sharjah.
