About Laboratory
A laboratory is also known as a test centre or a diagnostic centre where tests are conducted on clinical specimens. They are set up near medical facilities or hospitals; most of them are located at hospitals as they are an easier access for patients and doctors alike. They deal with the inspection of biological specimens such as blood, DNA, sperm, skin, tissue and other related specimens. They also deal with inspecting urine, stool, discharge and other bodily fluids. Laboratory equipment is designed to inspect and determine the nature of the specimen and diagnose the ailment present in them.
Clinical laboratories focus on applied sciences and produce antidotes for diseases. Research laboratories are established to focus on incurable ailments and develop antidotes to prevent them. A medical laboratory is divided into two sections which are anatomic pathology and clinical pathology. The anatomic pathology deals with diagnostic diseases which are connected to the human body. Here the specimen is studied and inspected under a microscope and examined thoroughly to understand its behaviour and determine the cause of pain or discomfort as well. An anatomic pathology laboratory is equipped with an electron microscope which helps doctors study ailments at a cellular level. Clinical pathology laboratories deal with the study of analysing bodily fluids such as urine, stool etc. It deals with bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology and mycology.
A medical laboratory houses medical staffs which include pathologists, clinical biochemist, biomedical scientist, laboratory scientist, lab technician, medical lab assistant and phlebotomist. Blood bank laboratories deal with the analysis of blood using a blood sample analyser. Other diagnostic libraries use stool analysers, urine analysers, DNA analysers and much more. Most analysers have a separate bay which is present under the microscope to help doctors analyse the specimen clearly.
Laboratory technicians study blood samples which are used for transfusion by identifying the number of cells by the method of performing cell morphology which helps them determine which blood type is compatible with which one. They operate different types of cell equipment which help in determining the blood group, nature of blood, blood type and the composition of haemoglobin and white blood cells in the specimen. Technicians operate sophisticated laboratory equipment such as electron microscopes cell counters bone marrow analysers and much more. Most clinical laboratories are equipped with automated and computerised equipment which is designed to conduct multiple tests simultaneously. They create a register and take essential data of the patient’s credentials and test results in the register. They discuss results and compare recent findings to get a better view of the diseases faced by the occupant as well.
Medical laboratories are set up at universities, schools, outpatient care centres, nursing homes, medical camps and clinics. They employ biological technicians, chemical technicians and material scientists. A biological technician deals with collecting specimens and conducting tests and experiments. A chemical technician uses special instruments to help produce antidotes for ailments and help research facilities as well. Some popular locations to find laboratories in Dubai are Sheikh Zayed Road, Khalid Bin Al Waleed road, Hamsah commercial complex, Hor Al Anz, Rigga Al Buteen Plaza building, Al Maktoum Road, Deira, Bank Street and Ras Al Khor.
