About Access Control System

An access control system is an electronic device which is programmed to limit access to a particular premise or a network. They are most commonly used to secure electronic doors, vaults, lockers etc. Most systems make use of the network for communication purpose. Some commonly used access control systems are biometric scanners, magnetic card readers, door controllers and retinal scanners. Most modern systems that are used in today’s world are secured by physical access control systems that are associated with electronic ones. These systems allow users to utilize resources and data in a limited manner.

Biometric access control systems are programmed to provide access to an authorized user by authenticating their fingerprint. This system is used to monitor attendance, track records and keep tabs on visitors and employees. If a new user wants to add his fingerprint the system inputs his or her fingerprint and store the details in a database. This database stores information about all authorized users in the access control list.

Proximity access control system is a more complex system that ensures a safer environment. They come in fifty different settings and five open door groups which are used in banks, factories, offices and industrial plants. Door access control system is a very simple access control system which is easy to install, economical and easy to use. This system is equipped with an electromagnetic door lock to limit access. This access control system is widely used in offices, server rooms, homes, airports, defence firms, data centres etc. Companies design nine type of access control models include attribute-based access control, discretionary access control, history-based access control, identify based access control, Mandatory access control, organization based access control, role-based access control, rule-based access control and responsibility based access control.

Attribute-based access control is a paradigm which allows access to users through the use of policies which evaluate different types of attributes. If your systems are equipped with the discretionary access control model you can control who can access your resources making it very useful for you. In the history-based access control model, the system evaluates the history of activities such as the behaviour of activities and content requests. In this manner, the access o a certain data or resource can be declined.

The identity-based access control system enables network administrators to effectively manage activity and access individual based requirements. In the mandatory access control system, users have the freedom to manage all activity. The organization based access control model is best suited for corporate companies as they allow the designer to implement different types of security protocols. Role-based access control enables access to a person based on their job title or designation. Rule-based access control model is a context-based method of allowing access to authorized personnel only for a particular point of time in a day.
