About Cctv

CCTV stands for closed circuit television, it is a video camera that transmits a signal to a monitor. The monitor that receives the signal grants limited access only to authorized personnel. It is dissimilar to broadcast television as the signal is not openly transmitted but is transmitted from point to point or from multipoint to single point. CCTV systems are mainly used in the surveillance of banks, jewellery showrooms, museums, retail outlets, government organizations, road traffic signals and areas which demand security. They find applications all around the world and in some cases, they are used in public surveillance to detect crime or other threats.

Industrial plants install CCTV monitors and attach CCTV cameras in control rooms, machine areas etc. They are used to observe the behaviour of industrial machinery and capture the event of an accident. CCTV systems are programmed to operate continuously, they are equipped with secondary storage hard discs which are capable of storing recorded footage of two years. However, most CCTV surveillance systems are designed to store recorded footage of thirty days as it is the average requirement for most organizations.

Some commonly used CCTV cameras are fixed cameras, PTZ cameras and 360-degree cameras. Other CCTV surveillance cameras include outdoor cameras, dome cameras, bullet cameras, discreet cameras, low light cameras etc. Some high-end CCTV surveillance cameras are equipped with a wide variety of lens features such as varifocal lenses, remote zoom and focus, autofocus coupled with motion detection etc. They also come with advanced options such as wireless signal transmission, ultra-high resolution, explosion proof, thermal imaging, infrared imaging, night vision filter and much more.

Commercial cable television is an ideal example of a closed circuit whereas the closed circuit television is a system which is designed for serving a small number of screens which are monitored for security purposes. It is used in institutional security systems to enhance security applications. It is used in prisons, banks, urban police forces, airports, military organizations, utilities, large corporations and various other organizations.

Closed circuit television systems are used in X-ray baggage inspection devices at airports, remote viewing of dangerous industrial processes, rocket liftoffs and other similar operations. Surveillance cameras can be fitted in both indoor and outdoor areas to view remote dangerous applications such as intrusion, theft and unauthorized entry. It monitors vehicular traffic and identifying personnel who enter or exit the building. Some cameras are designed with additional features such as motion detection and facial recognition. These systems not only help identify individuals but also detect any type of intrusion or suspicious movement. The most popular camera is the Pan Tilt and zoom camera as it covers a wide area and eliminates camera blind spots. Some cameras come with a night vision filter and a thermal filter which helps detect activity in low lighting and foggy climatic conditions.
