About Facade Panels

Facade panels are exterior wall claddings which are also known as rain screen facades. They are used in balcony applications or as decorative external wall claddings. Decorative facade panels are designed to blend in with the building architecture. They are a lifestyle statement which is used to endorse your brand or attract visitors to your workplace. Rain screen facades are used as external wall claddings which are resistant to moisture. It acts as a sheathing which prevents drainage or evaporation. It is known as a rain screen as it acts as a barrier to prevent moisture or air. Some rain screen facades are constructed to equalize high-pressure winds. Since Dubai is prone to sandstorms and high-pressure winds using pressure equalized rain screen facades are a very reliable option. These panels are designed with ventilation openings which are large enough to equalize air pressure from both sides of the rain screen.

Most facade panels are three layers thick where the first layer is present on the surface of the wall, the second layer is the drainage pane and thirdly the last layer is the moisture or air barrier. They come with a veneer which does not stand off the sliding wall which creates a cavity that is not similar to a rain screen. A masonry veneer can be used as a rain screen facade if it is ventilated properly. Rain screen facade panels come in different designs which include basic, open, conventional, pressure-equalized, pressure monitored rains screen systems or assemblies. Another popular type of facade panel is the rain screen cladding which is a type of double wall constructed panel which is designed to keep moisture and acts as a rainproof wall. It comes with an inner layer of thermal insulation which prevents excess air leakage and wind loading. The surface breathes like an ocean and drastically reduces energy loss.

Facade panels comprise of a rain screen system which is an integrated system that is airtight and prevents capillary action. Water is prone to enter the wall due to capillary action, gravity, momentum or pressure. These panels are designed to resist high-pressure water and prevent water entry due to gravity, momentum or force of action. Ventilation openings which are present in facade panels are shielded with a semi-porous membrane which acts as a filter to prevent moisture and enhance air circulation. The panel consists of furring and sheathing material; a water-resistant membrane is placed in between these two materials. This membrane directs water towards a drip edge flashings which protect other parts of the building. In some panels, a layer of insulation is applied beneath the membrane. Double wall facade panels are constructed with an outer layer which is coated with a rainproof membrane and an inner layer which provides thermal insulation. It prevents excessive air leakage and wind loading as the outer layer is similar to the skin as it breathes efficiently and is suitable for ventilation. The inner layer of the double wall facade panel prevents any loss of energy and the overall structure of the panel is built to keep the building dry. Thermal insulation does not allow water to touch the building. Most facade panels are constructed with a cavity which removes water which penetrates between the panel and joints.

Rain screen facade panels separate the veneer and the weather resistant barrier present in the inner layer of the panel. They provide a predictable unobstructed path for the drainage of water or moisture. Some popular locations to get in touch with companies which provide facade panels in Dubai are Sheikh Zayed Road, Deira, Al Quoz industrial area, Al Aweer and Silicon Oasis.
