About Access Control

Access control is a method of limiting or restricting access to a system, physical or virtual resource. An access control system allows access to resource, information, data etc. The user needs to present their credentials before being granted access. These credentials can be a passcode, password, bio-metric scan or a voice command. A physical access control system includes cloud based access control system, mobile or smart phone based access control system or IoT access control system.

Access control is managed by three principle systems which are: discretionary access control, mandatory access control and role based access control. There are four prime components of an access control system which are readers, bio-metric readers, magnetic door locks and access cards. An access control reader is an important component of an access control system, they are generally installed near doors. They are equipped with scanning device which is programmed to read key card information. When a user inserts a key card the reader collects information and sends data to the control panel for further authentication, if the car is authentic then the system will unlock the door. Bio-metric readers are special type of scanners which scans the fingerprint of the user and sends the data to the control panel for processing. The system grants access if the data is authentic. Some examples of bio-metric readers are finger print readers, palm scanners, retinal scanners, hand geometric scanners etc.

An access control system denies access to undefined users, limits the administrative usage, suspends inactive accounts, enforces password rotation, enforces strict access criteria and removes obsolete accounts. An access control system also stores a database of authentic users in an access control list. Some popular locations to get in touch with companies that sell access control systems in Sharjah are SAIF zone, Industrial area 5, Hamriyah free zone, Jamal Abdul nasser Street and Industrial area 3.
