Solar panels comprise of photovoltaic cells that are sandwiched together, they are used to harness electricity to power electronic appliances such as remote power system for cabins, remote sensing, telecommunication equipment, and for industrial and commercial purposes. The major benefit of installing solar panels is to remain independent from conventional forms of energy, remain eco friendly and reduce overall expenses. Solar panels do not expel toxic gas, cause noise pollution or discharge toxic chemicals.

There are five different types of solar panels which harness energy in different ways they are, mono crystalline silicon solar cells, these cells comprise of single silicon ingots which are cylindrically shaped. They have the highest efficiency rates as they are made of high grade silicon. They can be installed in small spaces and are capable of producing electricity four times more intense as compared to thin film solar panels. Poly crystalline solar panels comprise of multi crystalline silicone cells which is easier to manufacture and involves less expenditure. String ribbon solar cells are made up of poly crystalline silicon which is temperature resistant.

Thin film solar cells comprise of several thin layers of photovoltaic material, these layers comprise of amorphous silicon, cadmium telluride, copper indium gallium selenide and organic photovoltaic solar cells. These cells can be manufactured in abundance, they are flexible in design. Amorphous silicon solar cells are used in small electronic appliances such as pocket calculators and wristwatches. These solar cells harness low power and are made up of a combination of thin layer of amorphous silicon cells. Solar panels can be used to power water heaters, water purifiers and water pumps, drying agricultural products, wind turbines, dams cooking and generating electricity.
