About Chemical Toilets

A chemical toilet collects human excreta in a separate tank which is periodically disposed of. These toilets minimize pungent smells and prevent the spread of harmful diseases. They are attached to a small tank or connected to it. These contents must be carefully pumped into sewers or sanitary treatment plant. Chemical latrines are portable as they contain waste in small quantities they are not attached to a sewer system or a septic tank directly. Portable latrines can be used in construction sites, at large gatherings such as festival gatherings, at highway rest stops etc. Some smaller versions can be used in caravans and small boats.

The lavatories used in aircrafts, trains and buses are clear examples of chemical toilets. These latrines comprise of a bowl with a blue dye colour. Conventional latrines need to be regularly disinfected using cleaning agents like bleach and formaldehyde or acid, whereas portable latrines are nitrate based and do not require the use of additional cleaning agents.

Chemical toilets are an added advantage for usage on a temporary basis. They are durable and convenient due to their flexible design. Their design comprises of an open front toilet seat which is U shaped in design and covered with a lightweight plastic. These latrines are large enough to accommodate a single person. They are free standing structures which contain an empty liquid that acts as a deodorizer. This liquid comprises of formaldehyde which is not corrosive and acts as a good disinfectant.

Portable toilets are rented to customers by companies. Making use of a portable toilet is much more economically than hiring janitors to clean conventional restrooms on a daily basis. Chemical toilets involve less maintenance cost and their portable nature makes them user-friendly. Portable latrines can be used at campsites and hill stations. Some chemical toilets are connected to sewer lines which facilitate ineffective disposal of waste. They come with a chemically treated reservoir which is right below the toilet seat. These chemicals are used to reduce foul odours and perform partial disinfection in the toilet. These latrines do not require the use of any type of odour repelling sprays or room freshening agents as they are designed with it. Chemical toilets have limited storage capacity which needs to be emptied periodically. Some of them are designed with an additional wooden platform underneath the toilet rises the height of the toilet seat to a considerable extent. However, for conventional toilets, these platforms are placed directly on the floor or on the ground outdoors. Some of them are designed with armrests or supportive bars for the physically challenged and the senior citizens.

Maintaining chemical toilets are very easy; all you need to do is pull out the T handle which is located in the centre of the latrine. There is a blue-green type of liquid at the bottom of the toilet which acts as a natural disinfectant. The toilet top can be easily replaced by reattaching the two sides of the clip together. The T handle must be pushed back in order to use the handle. This T handle is located at the centre of the toilet base making it easier for you open the water reservoir. Chemical toilets are used in rural areas, camping areas and remote place. Some popular locations to get in touch with retailers who sell chemical toilets in Dubai are Falcon towers located in Ajman.
