About Sports Flooring
Sports centers, sports academies, and other multi-purpose sports institutions usually require special and unique flooring. Tennis court flooring is designed to provide good foothold and grip, accurate ball bounce, shock absorption and medium ball speed. Ice-skating floors require special treatment and engineering. The flooring used in most multi-purpose sports centers and institutions are usually very economical and easy to maintain. These floors should also provide a surface capable of facilitating various activities that include running, walking and jumping comfortably. These sports floorings may be permanent or mobile installations and used in schools, parks, military bases, churches, etc.
Sports floors used in most sports centers are classified into four major types. These include area-elastic, mixed-elastic, combined-elastic and point-elastic sports floors. The two basic types of sports floors are area-elastic and point-elastic, while the other two are hybrids of these two types. The difference between these types of flooring is the distance of change or disfiguration of the floor from the weight bearing area. Area-elastic flooring has a large distance of change or deformation from the weight bearing area. This makes this type of flooring deflection-resistant. Point-elastic floors have a low deformation area. Here, the change in the surface, due to added weight, is limited to little or no space around the weight-bearing area.
Some sports like indoor track, tennis, weightlifting, basketball and futsal require specific flooring requirements. Other sports like horse racing needs special sports flooring, which is engineered to prevent injury. This flooring covers the majority of the area like stables, tracks, breeding areas, etc and is similar to natural ground cover. Most sports flooring is made of natural or synthetic material or a mix of the two. Some common material includes maple hardwood, polyurethane, sports linoleum, vulcanized rubber and sports vinyl. There are a few companies that deal with the production and distribution or supply of sports flooring in UAE. Sports flooring dealers require authentication and certification of their products to fulfill their needs. Some companies that deal with sports flooring in UAE are located in Al Quoz and 12D street in Dubai, Airport Road in Abu Dhabi, Industrial Area 11 in Sharjah, etc.
